I'm the opposite of compulsive scrolling: as soon as I realize I'm wasting time, I leave the site. As a result, I have a FOMO about your first line comments, so hopefully I will see them in your weekly posting without having to stick my nose into the Instagram firehose!
I’m jealous of you, David! Some FLF stuff will remain on IG only but I’ll certainly link to it weekly so you can just scootch in, see the line/edit, and skedaddle out!
So I learned two things with your post: Chyron (now I'm going to feel so intelligent, there will be no living with me) and BFRB. Always love to read your take on first lines and writing in general (and the proper use of semicolons).
Your critiques always amaze me. If only I could see my own first line attempts the way you do! Can you do this to your own work too or just ours?? 😇😂🙃
I am very critical with my own work as well! My brain does a lot of this sort of organically, so I think it just…happens?!

Hi Becca… followed ya. Now off to learn this App. 😆😆😆
I think you’ll really like it, Dawn!
I’m glad you’ve found a healthier way to share these. I’m working on my doom scrolling too and it’s HARD.
I wasn’t even doomscrolling per se—just being mindless. I think IG was making me imaginatively complacent, which seems an awful consequence.
Fancy! I like this. The less time spent on Instagram the better. :)

Ahahaha you made me lol! Look up the etymology of “chyron”—it’s fascinating!
(Did not expect to learn about centaurs)
(But aren’t you glad you did?)
